My career as an artist began at a very young age. While in nursery school I won a state award from a drawing contest. I also began to play the piano in kindergarten and by the end of elementary school I started playing jazz. From elementary through high school, I won many awards for Korean calligraphy as well as awards for art and photography. These achievements inspired me and led me to study communication design at college. Art always has been part of my life, but it became my passion as my skills developed. When I finished junior high school my father developed terminal cancer and passed away. The following two years saw my family struggle financially and emotionally and this brought me into a slow downward spiral. However, with an abundance of help from my teachers, I was able to surpass the pain and move on with my life. Since I did not have a father and my mother did not speak English, my teachers became parental figures and guided me in the right direction. As a result, I enrolled in the Parsons School of Design. After teaching second graders in a summer school program, I realized that teaching art was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. As I continue to learn a great deal about life from both my teachers and students, I also hope to be a source of great inspiration for my students just like the teachers that inspired and guided me.We live in a society where we are surrounded by art and art is society. I believe creativity is essential in life. I use art as a tool to express myself and it has molded me into a creative thinker. My aspiration is to become a mentor for students. With my knowledge and experiences, I will assist students in the development of their artistic skills and creative thinking. iSchool of Music & Art Port Washington: 14 Vanderventer Ave., 11050 (516) 883-5000 Syosset: 14 Cold Spring Road, 11791 (516) 802-5885 Email: info@ischoolmusicart.com Copyright © 2008 iSchool of Music & Art, LLC.
